Last night Halli completed her CGC title at the Columbus All Breed Training Club. The CGC Title requires the dog to:
- Accept a friendly stranger (evaluator) who shakes hands with the owner, but does not touch the dog.
- Dog must sit politely for petting by the (evalulator) showing no shyness or resentment.
- Dog’s appearance and grooming as it allows the Evaluator to inspect ears and front feet.
- Dog must be able to go “out for a walk” with it’s handler doing right turn, left turn, about turn and stop.
- Dog must show that can walk through a crowd of people and other dogs without jumping up or showing more than casual interest.
- Dog must sit and down on cue, and be willing to stay in place as the owner walks away apx 20 feet and then returns.
- Dog must come when called from apx 10 feet away
- Dog must not react to a dog or the other dog’s owner when they approach and shake hands or talk to it’s owner.
- Dog must not panic or show aggression to distractions.
- Dog must willingly stay on leash held by a stranger while the owner goes out of sight for 3 minutes.
All of these must be passed in order to earn the CGC title from AKC. This title is highly recommended for all dog owners, especially the giants like our Danes. Afterall, they have to be well mannered and able to live in their owner’s world peacefully.
